Revival: April 27, 2007

Written by Aldo El-Jatib, this play was presented for the first time in Buenos Aires, in 1985. The actors at that time were part of TAIET, the group led by El-Jatib prior the foundation of “EL RAYO MISTERIOSO”. For the fifth anniversary of "EL RAYO MISTERIOSO" in 1999 the play was revived to be part of a theatre cycle with two other shows, “CIRUJAS” and “MUZ”. Later, in 2001, "Litófagas" was presented during a whole season in "TEATRO DEL RAYO" (Rosario), closing its cycle on March 24 -25 years after the last coup d’état in Argentina-. In 2004 El-Jatib adapted the play to introduce it into the Spanish public, in a completely renovated version that premiered in April 2005 in Endrinal de la Sierra, making ten presentations throughout that whole year in Salamanca, Spain. It was re-released on April 27, 2007, with a performance at the Civic Plaza of Rosario.

SYNOPSIS
The dramatic structure of the show is conceived with an absurd language. The characters reproduce the schemes of symbolism, specters, ghosts, masks. Two madams chatter as they sweep the sidewalk incessantly. The clattering of the language, the apparently broken speech, the exasperating reiteration, that "crowing" of chickens, typical of the neighbors of so many well-known neighborhoods… it all points to the issue of the lack of communication, loneliness, emptying the meaning of everyday dialogues, reeling throughout the play still unresolved conflicts of the idiosyncrasy and recent history of Argentina.

PRESS SUMMARY
“Litófagas is still one of the most moving arguments produced by the recent dramaturgy and one of the plays that claims theatre as a field for experimentation”
Julio Cejas, “ Rosario 12” journal.
